Why You’ll Love This
There is never a better time to start cooking. Whether you’re a child, someone who wants to impress your other half, or a retiree who wishes to spend time meaningfully, now is the time to get your kitchen started and get your hands dirty. Cooking can be fun, therapeutic and fulfilling especially when you’re cooking for your loved ones.
I have included my family’s secret recipes passed down from my grandmother who was once a chef in a famous Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown in the early 1900s. I will also include curated recipes that I have tried, tested and tweaked over the years to expand the repertoire.
My grandmother was a chef at a famous Cantonese restaurant at Chinatown back in the early 1900s when she first migrated to Singapore from Canton, China. My affinity for cooking began during my childhood days when I lived with my aunt for the first years of my life, and also later when I moved home to live with my parents. As a child, I would stand on a stool to observe my Aunt and dad cook to learn the basics.
I cooked my first dish when I had to “teach” my mum’s Filipino domestic helper how to cook a dish she forgot how to cook, hence, beginning my gastronomical adventures as a child.
Cooking is a Science and an Art; I am an engineer by education and a budding artist who paints my own acrylic pieces and digital sketches on my iPad on my free time. Precision and accuracy is the most important attribute in the Science of Cooking, while creativity and innovation are essential for the Art of Cooking.
